New Curriculum for HOPE (Health & Opioid-Abuse Prevention)
(Spring 2017) StartTalking! joined with the Ohio Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (OAHPERD) to create a new Health and Opioid-Abuse Prevention Education (HOPE) Curriculum for students in the Buckeye State. The curriculum is being written by a group of health educators, teachers and faculty from the University of Toledo, Wright State University, Ohio University and Cleveland State University and will satisfy mandates of Ohio House Bill 367. This legislation requires drug abuse education for students in grades K-12.
The new program, slated to roll out this summer, will feature lesson plans, assessment and instruction materials, teacher manuals and suggestions for parent and community involvement. The StartTalking! curriculum and other drug-abuse prevention initiatives connected with schools will lay a continuous foundation of drug-free education and encourage healthy living at school, home and in the community.
