Office of National Drug Control Policy on the Chopping Block

(Spring 2017) The White House’s Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) is one of nine programs the Trump Administration’s budget is planning on cutting.  The ONDCP provides grants to reduce drug use and drug trafficking and its director, commonly known as the “drug czar”, usually spearheads national drug policy.

Numerous drug policy and advocacy groups, including Addiction Policy Forum, Smart Approaches to Marijuana and the Major County Sheriffs of America, sent a letter to the Office of Management and Budget expressing their concern at the possibility of defunding the ONDC.
