Study Shows Marijuana THC Content Over 10 Percent

A recent government study found that the average amount of THC in marijuana now exceeds 10 percent. This is the first time the amount has reached double digits in the study’s history. By comparison, in 1983 the average amount was only 4 percent.
Researcher Mahmoud Elsohly of the University of Mississippi’s Potency Monitoring Project forecasts the trend will continue. He predicts the percentage of THC is likely to reach 15-16 percent before leveling off.
This issue is particularly relevant to U.S. businesses because, according to the 2008 Drug Testing Index published by Quest Diagnostics, marijuana continues to be the drug most identified in positive workplace drug tests. According to that report, over 46 percent of all positive tests for the “general workforce” are positive for marijuana.
