Drug Take-Back Day Achieves New Record
(Winter 2017) In October, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) sponsored its 14th Prescription Drug Take-Back Day, a program aimed at lowering addiction rates. Partner sites throughout the country received a combined total of over 912,000 pounds of unused and expired prescription drugs to be destroyed —the highest amount collected in the program’s history to date. For this event, the DEA also coordinated with tribal law enforcement to create 115 drop-off sites in Native American communities.
Ohioans did their part during the autumn Take-Back Day, turning over approximately 35,000 pounds of prescription medications.
The next Take-Back Day is scheduled for April 28, 2018.
