Ex-NFL Players Support Medical Marijuana
(Summer 2016) In California, 30 former National Football League (NFL) players have joined with a marijuana firm to explore whether the drug is an effective solution for depression and chronic pain. This comes on the heels of proliferating reports on the physical and mental issues plaguing many ex-NFL players including a serious brain disease called chronic traumatic encephalopathy. A report released by the American College of Sports Medicine in 2007 concluded that 50% of retired NFL players experience chronic pain, and a 2013 study revealed that 4 in 10 suffer at least low-level depression.
