New Deadly Opioid Combo Responsible for Fatalities in Ohio & Southern States
(Summer 2017) “Gray death,” a blend of fentanyl, carfentanil, heroin and a man-made opioid named U-47700, is suspected as the cause of deaths in Ohio, Alabama and Georgia.
Fentanyl alone is a very hazardous drug. Fifty times stronger than heroin, just a two-milligram dose of the substance can be lethal. Although often found in a powder form, seizures of fentanyl as a liquid or pill are becoming more common. Over 1,400 pounds of fentanyl was confiscated in 2016; this amount would be capable of killing every citizen in the U.S. While fentanyl is making its way into the United States through many channels, U-47700 is being manufactured in China using an abandoned patent formula.
Gray death can be snorted, smoked, injected or swallowed. The drug looks similar to concrete mix and ranges in texture from chunks to a powder and is extremely potent. Even skin exposure to the substance can put an individual’s life in danger.
