Oregon’s Measure 74 on Medical Marijuana: Defeated

Although Oregon already has a medical-marijuana law on the books, Measure 74 sought to increase its scope by permitting sales of the drug from privatized non-profit dispensaries. If it had passed, the legislation would have permitted for-profit, state-approved marijuana farmers to sell to those facilities.

Additionally, the measure stated that medical marijuana patients still had the right to grow the plants at home, as long as they were licensed. Furthermore, the legislation would have granted the Oregon Department of Health and Human Services the ability to set quality control standards for medical marijuana based on research it would have conducted.
