Oregonians Can Legally Purchase Marijuana Earlier than Expected
(Fall 2015) Although Oregon legalized recreational marijuana use on July 1, 2015, marijuana sales were not slated to happen until late 2016. However, Governor Kate Brown pushed up the date for purchasing legal recreational marijuana to October 1, 2015. At this point, sales will be conducted at established medical marijuana dispensaries. Retailers are expected to be in business before the end of 2016 and can legally sell up to one ounce per customer. The state will collect a 25% sales tax on marijuana beginning January 4, 2016.
