Two Local Companies Presented National Award for Commitment to a Drug-Free Workplace
(Columbus, OH) Local companies Katzinger’s Delicatessen and Heinzerling Foundation were recognized during award ceremonies (one for each organization) for receiving the Institute for a Drug-Free Workplace’s 2014 Company of the Year Award on Workplace Substance-Abuse Prevention. The awards highlight each company’s dedication to their drug-free workplace.
On hand to present representatives from Katzinger’s Delicatessen and Heinzerling Foundation their awards were Working Partners® Founder & CEO Dee Mason and Managing Director Karen Pierce, who nominated both companies for the award. During the ceremonies, both Mason and Pierce commended the companies for their persistent commitment to maintain a drug-free environment.
Of Katzinger’s Delicatessen, Pierce said, “We have been impressed with the deli’s commitment to providing a safe, healthy and productive place for people to work. This commitment to maintaining a drug-free environment, especially in the food service industry, is trail-blazing and award-winning.”
Similar praise was given to Heinzerling Foundation. “The most impressive element of their program is their commitment to education and training,” said Pierce. “Here’s how our training team describes their staff, ‘incredibly knowledgeable about policy, eager to learn and challenge their protocols and ready for high level of dialogue.’”
In addition to receiving the Institute’s award, both companies were also presented with a proclamation from Ohio Governor John Kasich in recognition of their efforts and commitment to promoting of a drug-free workplace.
“We are incredibly proud of these two companies that their commitment to a drug-free workplace program has been acknowledged by such a prestigious national organization as the Institute,” said Mason when the awards were first announced. “Katzinger’s Deli and the Heinzerling Foundation are two great examples of how a company’s drug-free workplace program can be successfully integrated in their overall business culture – recognized as an integral element with other cost-containment, risk management and employee wellness strategies.”
This was the inaugural year for the Institute for a Drug-Free Workplace’s Company of the Year Award on Workplace Substance-Abuse Prevention which honors one company, nationwide, in each of the following categories: under 200 employees, 201 – 999 employees and 1,000 + employees. Katzinger’s received the award in the under 200 employees category and Heinzerling received the award in the 201 – 999 employees category.
“The fact that two Ohio companies won our national search for outstanding substance-abuse prevention programs is impressive,” said Alison Loughlin, director of membership services for Institute for a Drug-Free Workplace. “Both Ohio winners showed creativity and dedication. Their programs are great examples to other businesses considering drug-free workplace programs.”
The Institute for a Drug-Free Workplace works to preserve the both employer and employee rights in drug and alcohol abuse prevention programs and to positively influence national policy in this area. Believing that a drug-free workplace is a safer, better place to work and do business and provides businesses with a competitive advantage, the Institute established the “Company of the Year” Awards to honor winning work environments which demonstrate those beliefs.
