The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has introduced oral fluid drug testing as an approved method for its regulated drug testing program. This significant update, effective December 5, 2024, provides employers with a valuable alternative to traditional urine testing, aligning with advancements in drug detection and workplace safety practices.

What Is DOT Oral Fluid Testing?

Oral fluid testing involves collecting a saliva sample to detect recent drug use. Unlike urine testing, which often requires a dedicated collection facility, oral fluid testing can be performed in virtually any location, making it a convenient and efficient option for both employers and employees.
